MRC funding awarded for bronchiectasis study

ok11905

We are delighted to announce that our laboratory was recently awarded an Experimental Medicine grant by the Medical Research Council (MRC)!

About 40% of bronchiectasis exacerbations are associated with viruses, though the precise mechanisms underlying this phenomenon and the factors that render some patients more susceptible to viral infections than others remain unknown. The funding provided by the MRC will provide a unique opportunity to investigate the role of viral infections in patients suffering from bronchiectasis.

Along with our collaborators in Imperial College London (Dr Anand Shah, co-lead), the University of Dundee, the University of Southampton and Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, our hope is that this study will result in a model that can be used to test current and future treatment options for patients.
